Google recently released the latest Android OS version numbers in the dev blog, and as we suspected, gingerbread is definitely on the way up. Now, perhaps not sky rapidly upwards, but gingerbread will soon become the next "Froyo", which to most, the Android installed base given is time.
Review by March of this year, gingerbread was hardly a blip on the radar, consisting not even a full 2% of the installed base. While it is growing like wildfire, nearly a quarter of all Android powered devices is the rise after in a few months definitely a nice thing. With the most (well-known) Android phones now out of the gate with gingerbread delivered this spike in numbers is not much of a surprise. Android 2.2 Froyo keeps 55.9% of the pie, by only 3.5% from last month.
We are one very happy, to see that down dwindling Android 2.1 Eclair. In March of this year, Eclair held to almost 30% of Android devices and holds only 15.2%. With the influx of gingerbread devices on the market come we can only hope that starts Eclair, even more time to zoom out. On the other hand if your handset is rocking still Android 2.1, we have our doubts that it will be further updated in something. Officially, at least.
After ice cream sandwich in the next few months is officially available, which should avoid Android version numbers the existing trends and slowly standardize. While it takes a while for the many millions of devices on their toes (and not all will) ice cream sandwich is has required the Android for quite some time and we can only hope that it facilitates the problems the platform have been fighting for some time. , Even if not, we will have the most beautiful-looking version of the operating system still hell.
